Debt Hypocrisy
The headline blares “Obama endorses deficit commission plan”, but as Politico points out, “the endorsement comes so late that it risks being seen as just a ploy to win over swing Democratic senators whose votes the White House needs to lift the federal debt ceiling.”
Obama’s $1.42 trillion deficit from FY 2009 was three times greater than the previous record from 2008 when Democrats also controlled the Congress and America’s check book. The first three months of FY 2010 are 17% greater than 2009, and the Administration itself is estimating another record $1.5 trillion deficit. By their own admission, annual deficits for the rest of the decade just begun will average nearly a trillion dollars.
The deficit commission plan is a joke, a smoke-screen; it’s akin to the captain of the Titanic placing an order for lifeboats after sighting the iceberg. Recommendations of the commission would not even be considered until after the November elections. Obama talks about deficit reduction and restoring fiscal discipline after a year in which he championed an $800 billion economic “Spendulous” and the $1 trillion Obamacare scheme to seize the health care industry. “The emperor has no clothes” doesn’t come close to describing this sham.
Mr. President, if you are really serious about reducing the deficit try this – stop the spending!
